  1. "Falling Man" by Don DeLillo.
The inside of the book jacket says it best:
"Brave and brilliant, Falling Man traces the way the events of September 11 have reconfigured our emotional landscape, our memory and our perception of the world. It is cathartic, beautiful and heartbreaking."
This book made me shake my head in wonder and cry with the memories it brought back.

  2. Their Eyes Were Watching God
    By Zora Neale Hurston
    High School level
An epic look into the life of an
extraordinary African American woman and her journey through life and love.
The first time I read this book was for an English class assignment. Loved it and read it many more times again. Will always be a favorite of mine.

  3. Hotel at the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, by Jamie Ford. About the power of love through the worst of times -- the internment of Japanese-Americans during WWII. 12 year old Henry Lee, a Chinese boy, falls in love with Keiko, a Japanese girl. Romantic, sweet, intense, and a GEM. Thanks to Ms. Pirsch for recommending it!
