The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Stieg Larsson High School reading level--14 and up, at least
This book was both an extremely well written story and an amazing mystery/thriller. It follows a journalist and a researcher in Sweeden as they try to solve a case of a missing girl that has haunted her uncle for over forty years. It starts out slow but winds its way into something you absolutely cannot put down--it's tense and exciting and an incredible mystery. There's a lot of adult content, so only for High School students at least.
cryptonomicon, neal stephonsen, ties in cryptography, computer hacking and lost WW2 gold. Fantastically written. Also, a must, is Catch 22 for the sheer wit it was written with
I remember one summer spending many hours in the window seats in the library in Cooper House reading the entire SHERLOCK HOLMES series. They were hardcover with red jackets. I never would have read those wonderful books if Linda hadn't put them on the shelves.
I've read many, many books, but for some reason, that memory resonates. I can still smell the Jacaranda tree and see the ocean from that window seat.
Lee Child has given us another super "slam bang yarn filled with Child's usual terse life and death lessons". It is titled "Bad Luck and Trouble". Our hero, Jack Reacher, is a loner who in each of Childs books travels from town to town and state to state dealing with bad people. It's pure good against evil and Reacher always comes out on top and the bad guys------well lets just say they go away one way or another. Lots of fast pace action and suspense that always is exciting and enjoyable. Best for adult reading or High School adventure seekers.
The best thriller I've read in a long time:
